Kalmar’s focus shifts towards mobile solutions

Kalmar’s parent company Cargotec announced on 29 March 2022 that the planned merger with Konecranes has been cancelled. The completion of the planned merger would have required approvals from all relevant competition authorities and since it was rejected by the UK Competition & Markets Authority, the planned merger between Cargotec and Konecranes cannot be completed.

During the entire merger process Cargotec and Konecranes have remained as fully independent, separate companies and competitors.

On 30 March 2022 Cargotec announced its new, refocused strategy to drive sustainability and growth in profitable core businesses. Cargotec aims to shift Kalmar’s focus towards mobile solutions and start planning an exit from the heavy crane (STS, RTG, ASC and RMG) business.

Going forward, Kalmar would offer industry shaping, eco-efficient mobile equipment including reachstackers, empty container handlers, forklift trucks, terminal tractors, straddle and shuttle carriers, Bromma spreaders as well as the entire Kalmar portfolio of services.

The planning for the exit from the heavy port crane business has only started but we want to assure that we continue to serve our customers with utmost dedication and will fulfil all our customer commitments, including deliveries, services as well as valid quotations and options.

Moving towards the next phase of Kalmar’s journey, we will continue to drive electrification, automation, robotisation and digitalisation across our industry.
